Description
The Bible portion of the week speaks about G-d and Abraham. G-d places a promise to Abraham: “And I will bless them that bless thee . . . “ (GENESIS 12:3). The Hebrew version of the bible is very specific saying: “I will bless those who bless you” and that means that G-d’s blessing is coming upon the one who bless, BEFORE someone is actually blesses Abraham.
Q. The question is WHY?
A. the answer is quite fascinating. From that answer the bible will teach us the importance of blessing the people of Israel.
Here is the answer: A man or woman who are about to bless can only bless from the world of concepts and ideas they know. It is therefore clear that a reach man can bless one and wish one much more then a poor man. For that reason G-d says: if you want to bless Israel – I will bless you before you bless Israel. That way you will be more fortunate, and your world of notions will be of better luck, success and happiness so your blessing for Israel will be: bigger and better. On the other hand, when cursing Israel, G-d says he will curse only those who actually curse Abraham – WHY? For the same reason. Someone can only curse from his own experience. So G-d says: “I don’t want to give the curser of Israel new ideas” – “so I will lay my curse upon him only after he has actually cursed Abraham”.
